An important part of the FBLA mission is to provide the resources necessary for our members to develop confidence and competent business leadership. One way that FBLA does this is through regular local FBLA meetings. The Hazleton Area High School Chapter of Pennsylvania FBLA is finding new ways to make meetings exciting and meaningful this year through laughter, teamwork, and a little bit of improvisation.
With members spread across different buildings, one of chapter’s main goals this year is to strengthen connections and create a sense of unity. To promote collaboration, officers have introduced a series of interactive team-building activities at meetings. This includes the crowd favorite, called “Blind PowerPoint Karaoke.”
In this activity, returning FBLA members are paired with one or two new members and challenged to present a slideshow they’ve never seen before. Each participant must think on their feet and “sell” the topic as if they created it themselves. This exercise always sparks a lot of laughter, creative thinking, and an important lesson surrounding business and leadership.
The chapter officers have made it a priority to help members feel welcomed and involved. By participating and leading games, icebreakers, and leadership challenges into meetings, the officers have been successful in encouraging both new and returning members to collaborate.
FBLA at Hazleton Area High School continues to focus on preparing students for careers in business while also prioritizing essential skills like building friendships and learning to lead within the community. With creative team-building strategies and a strong sense of purpose, the chapter proves that having fun is an important part of the professional growth journey.
