Local chapter make service a monthly focus

Pine Bluffs High School FBLA in Wyoming filled two baskets with a full Thanksgiving dinner, turkey included. Each member was assigned something to bring to fill the baskets. This project was one of the once-a-month charity events the chapter does.

“It was a great way to help a family in need get a great Thanksgiving dinner,” said Ellen Watson, Pine Bluffs FBLA historian/reporter.

The baskets were delivered to a local safe house and from there went to families in need. The chapter has been doing this for a few years and has helped out many families in need on Thanksgiving.

Also on Halloween, Pine Bluffs FBLA was going from house to house, but they didn’t collect candy, they collected clothes, food, and money donations for charity. A few years ago, the FBLA chapter asked themselves, how else can we help our community? Their answer, trick-or-treat for charity. The chapter was split into groups and given an area of town that they went to and collected. Once they had collected all the donations, they took them to school where their adviser Joyce Smock and the FBLA officers separated and distributed the donations to different local charities like Safe House, the local churches, and Mayors Youth Council.

“The trick-or-treat for charity event was a success! I think it will help many families and it was a fun volunteer project,” said Halley Heintz, chapter president.

The chapter collected 12 bags of clothes, over 20 bags of non perishable foods, and over $50.00 in monetary donations.
