South High FBLA attends state fall conference

South Hagerstown High School FBLA officers attended the Maryland FBLA Fall Leadership Conference held at the Clarion Inn in Ocean City.

Officers participated in a three-hour Leadership Academy, worked to earn a leadership pin, and attended a wide range of workshops. The Leadership Academy was presented by TRI Leadership Resources. Members participated in a wide variety of activities that focused on teamwork, communication, risk taking, leadership, and goal setting. The workshops included “Striking Gold with Goals” designed to help local officers create effective programs of work; “Recruit, Retain, Involve” to assist with membership recruitment and involvement; “FBLA Jeopardy” tested members’ knowledge of the FBLA organization; “Deliver It Right” enhanced communication skills; and “Positioned for Success” provided tips and information on the role of an officer.

Officers also networked with local FBLA officers across the state of Maryland, as well as notable business representatives. The social activities included swimming in the hotel pool, walking along the beach, trick-or-treating at the advisers’ doors, and dancing. This conference served as a valuable tool in fulfilling the duties of their office and in providing the leadership skills needed as an adult in a highly competitive job market.
