Local chapter engages in Make a Difference Week
During the week of October 15–19, Brentsville District High School FBLA in Virginia participated in Make a Difference Week. The week included several activities to improve the school and community as part of their “Children Helping Children” Community Service Project.
The students kicked the event off on Monday with an informational day. FBLA members encouraged everyone in the school to perform random acts of kindness throughout the day and the rest of the week. On Tuesday, students wore pink to increase breast cancer awareness. The chapter also sold Otis Spunkmeyer cookies with pink M&M’s to raise money for breast cancer. On Wednesday, students brought in coloring books and board games for Child Protective Services. On Thursday, FBLA members hosted an arm wrestling competition during all five lunch periods. Competitors donated a dollar to test their strength, and winners of each lunch period were announced. Money from this competition was donated to Appalachian Children, an organization that provides a home for needy children living in communities near the Appalachian Mountains. Friday was dedicated to Invisible Children, an organization that improves the life of children in Uganda who are affected by war and poverty. Students brought in white T-shirts and spray-painted a red X across the front, a symbol of the Invisible Children movement. Members also collected donations in milk cartons during lunch periods.
During the entire week, all students heard announcements about the worthwhile purpose of Make a Difference Week. FBLA members and students from the entire school participated and made the week a tremendous success!
