The months of February and March are a couple of the busiest months for FBLA. We have continued to have “Dress for Success” days on the first Thursday of every month. For the first week of the second semester many new students were recruited into joining FBLA. A week afterwards, several people in and out of FBLA were looking forward to our Valentine’s Day Party which unfortunately could not happen due to weather conditions. In addition to all of this, the week of February 11th to February 15th was national FBLA-PBL week. Each day, we had specific events to honor the week. On Monday, members were to dress up in business attire. On Tuesday, we had a study night that was also for online testing, with Chipotle dinner compliments from Ms. Smiley. On Wednesday, it was Staff Appreciation day where all members of the staff and faculty received gifts from FBLA. On Thursday was suppose to be a chapter meeting, and lastly, on Friday, members were suppose to show FBLA pride by wearing gold and blue.
On top of all of this, everyone’s minds have been wrapped around the quickly approaching District Conference on February 29th at Johnson and Wales University in Denver, CO. We have all been waiting for this conference since November and it is finally approaching. Most of us have worked tremendously hard trying to get ready for this, from study nights to chapter meetings. All of our chapter meetings for the past two months have been preparation for Districts.
Most of us have been able to take our tests already since most of them were online. FBLA had its online testing day February 12th after school. Out of the near forty members signed up to go to districts, at least half have taken a test that was to be completed online. Those of us who did not take an online event will have to wait to compete at the district conference. These are the members who did not sign up for written tests, but instead signed up for speaking and presenting events. All members will find out how well they did at the award ceremony at the District Conference.
The goal is to do so well at district to have the chance to move on to state. Advancing to state is very difficult so it is an exciting thing to have happen. For most of the written tests, only the top five students for each test move on to state. For speaking and presenting events, usually only the top two or three get to move on. With some of the events having nearly 100 competitors, it is a great accomplishment to do this well. Overland has always had members advance to state in the past, and we have high hopes for the students who have studied very hard this year. We all have all of our fingers crossed and are hoping for the best later on this month at the Conference.
