Centennial FBLA hosts American Enterprise Day meeting
American Enterprise Day is the day we celebrate the free enterprise system. It allows us to have any type of economy we want, whether it is for profit, nonprofit, or voluntary service. On Nov. 15, over 30 members from Centennial, Norco, and Santiago in California attended the after school meeting to celebrate American Enterprise Day. There were two guest speakers: Jeff Miller, City of Corona mayor pro-tem, and Kevin Ruroc, Booster Juice business owner. Also attending the meeting were Centennial Principal Sam Buenrostro and Corona Norco Unified School District Director of Curriculum and Instruction Greg Lomeli.
American Enterprise Day was a success. Jeff Miller talked about how a city is run. They have to rely solely on taxes that the city itself generates. Also, he talked about the importance of voting in local elections.
Next, we had Booster Juice Owner Kevin Ruroc speak about the pro’s and con’s of owning a franchise business. Some key facts he mentioned included being part of the franchise means you have to pay a fee of about $25,000. In the end the cost of starting this type of business comes out to be $150,000 to $200,000. Also, if you really want to start a business of some kind then you should be prepared to be in a deficit for at least the first six months of opening.
