Leader Feature: The Auburn University chapter of Phi Beta Lambda ended the spring 2007 semester by holding a Yankee Candle fundraiser.  These funds were used to help the chapter with yearly expenses.  In our last meeting of the semester we elected officers for the New Year.  We also held a going away/graduation party for the outgoing PBL chapter president.

We began the fall 2007 semester by discussing our goals for the year.  Building camaraderie with our fellow members was one of our goals,  We achieved this goal by playing intramural volleyball, attending an Auburn basketball and baseball game, and threw a baby shower for our business education graduate teaching assistant (AU GTA).  Another goal was to help others and we achieved this by participating in the “Beat Bama food drive.”  The food drive is where Auburn University competes against its in-state rival, the University of Alabama, to see who can collect the most nonperishable food items.  We also sent a goodie bag and flowers to another AU GTA’s daughter, who was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a cancerous tumor.  We ended the fall semester by meeting at a restaurant and celebrating the holidays before members went home

The big project we planned for this semester was Project Care Package.  The goal was to send another care package to our troops stationed in Iraq.  This is the second consecutive year we have been able to express our support and appreciation to a service member.  We were able to send a bigger care package this year because of increased enthusiasm and support from the membership. The Marine is a member of America’s Battalion- 2nd Battalion 8th Marine Regiment-currently serving in Iraq, and is also the friend of a PBL officer.  We received a call from the Marine while he was deployed in Iraq, personally thanking us for the care package.
